————————————————
There was a lot of rain this year. In previous years, it never rained so frequently in the mountains at this time of year. But this year was a little strange. In half a month, there were only two sunny days.
Shen Qingxuan had already learned how to pass the time. He was not anxious even when trapped in the house. He leaned against the window and listened to the rain day after day.
The sound of raindrops hitting the leaves, the sound of raindrops hitting the eaves, the sound of raindrops dripping into the earthenware jars in the yard… It is interesting to capture them one by one with your ears and distinguish the tiny differences.
There were also the bright and beautiful flowers in the courtyard, which swayed in the rain in his sight , no longer dignified, but with a different kind of charm. When he was in the mood to look, Shen Qingxuan would unfold the drawing paper and paint the scenery in the rain on it, enjoying himself and feeling very comfortable.
He had long since learned to find happiness in silence, otherwise he would not have survived more than twenty years.
At night, after dinner, he would soak in warm water with a faint medicinal aroma until his eyelids were too weak to lift. Then he rang the bell to call the servant to help him go to bed.
It rained heavily again that night.
Shen Qingxuan thought Yi Mo would not come again, so he went to bed early. But he did not fall asleep. He just leaned on the bedside, with a chessboard set on a small square table in front of him. He took a book of ancient chess endgames and arranged them according to the book.
The black and white chess pieces were scattered at first, but suddenly they were closely connected under his hands. Suddenly they were like thousands of troops, encircling and killing each other; suddenly they were like tigers out of their cages, attacking the central army.
As I was concentrating on fiddling with it, the curtains on the bed seemed to be blown by the wind, and a corner of it was lifted up vaguely.
Shen Qingxuan raised his head and looked through the green gauze with a look of surprise.
There was no one in the room. But Shen Qingxuan knew he was coming, and quickly opened the curtain and waved to the empty space.
Feeling a hint of cold air approaching, Shen Qingxuan put away the chess pieces on the table, took out a pen and paper from the wooden cabinet beside the bed, and wrote:
The wind is strong and the rain is heavy, please come up and sit down.
After a while, the big bed shook slightly, and there were marks on the thin quilt under the chess table.
There was a crackling sound of raindrops hitting the window outside. Shen Qingxuan thought he would not come. He was only wearing a snow-white middle-length shirt with the collar askew . The hairpin on his head had also been taken off. His black hair was scattered in front and behind him in a rather messy manner, looking lazy.
It was not until Yi Mo sat down opposite the chessboard that he realized his impoliteness and hurriedly wrote:
I thought you wouldn’t come.
After finishing writing, I looked at the empty space opposite, but to my surprise, there was no movement at all.
Shen Qingxuan was quite surprised. Although Yi Mo was very indifferent during the few months they had known each other, he was never rude and always answered every question.
What happened today?
Just as he was guessing it, the paper on the table was picked up by someone, and the pen in his hand was taken away by someone and moved to the opposite side.
Then words gradually appeared on the paper, but it was a farewell.
Yi Mo is going to leave the mountain and go somewhere else.
Shen Qingxuan was shocked when he heard this. He was at a loss for words and inexplicably panicked. He grabbed the pen in the air opposite him, grabbed the paper, and asked him where he was going, what happened, and when he would be back in a hasty handwriting. He lost all his composure.
Later, he asked someone to take the paper and ink from his hand, writing neatly and neatly . This was something that the thousand-year-old snake demon had been looking for for two hundred years, and he had just found some clues recently, so he would go down the mountain to get it.
Shen Qingxuan finally felt relieved.
After being silent for a while, he could no longer resist his curiosity and asked him what that thing was. It was so precious that even Yi Mo couldn’t wait to get it.
The paper and pen paused for a while before two words appeared on them: Snake Shed.
Shen Qingxuan was dumbfounded.
Yi Mo was in great joy, as he had finally found what he had been searching for for so many years. He spread out the paper again and told him the story – it turned out that more than two hundred years ago, Yi Mo, who had successfully survived the catastrophe, hid in the mountains to shed his skin, but he never expected that the snake skin would disappear for no reason.
Although he himself despised the thin snake skin , he was after all a thousand-year-old demon, and the skin he shed was also extraordinary. If it fell into the hands of others and was refined into a weapon, it would cause trouble. Therefore, he had been searching for it for many years.
It wasn’t until today that that thing finally took shape.
Shen Qingxuan asked more detailed questions, and Yi Mo did not hide anything and answered them one by one. Inevitably, some past events were mentioned in his conversation, revealing his true colors. However, Yi Mo did not care to let others know, but Shen Qingxuan took careful notes because he was concerned.
All along, Shen Qingxuan only knew that he was a snake demon, but he didn’t know the origin and past of this snake demon. Today he learned that the reason why Yi Mo became a demon was because of someone’s enlightenment. Even Yi Mo’s hometown was thousands of miles away.
Shen Qingxuan picked up the pen and asked him: Why did you leave your hometown?
Yi Mo thought for a while and replied with one word: noisy.
Hometown is the root of the soul for humans, but for snakes, it is just the place of birth. He was originally just an ignorant little snake, sleeping when he was full, waking up in spring and hibernating in winter . He lived in a cave in the mountains and didn’t know anything about the world.
At that time, the world was in turmoil, with wars raging across the five states and ten kingdoms. In the midst of the chaos, a hundred schools of thought contended with each other, and scholars, saints, heroes and warriors emerged one after another. For a time, countless heroes coexisted with gods and demons. There were also Taoists who cultivated immortality, alchemists, and disciples of Maitreya. Various schools of thought gathered in this chaotic world, and it was wonderful.
He was a small snake who didn’t understand the chaos of the world and lived in peace in a corner. But he didn’t expect that the war would come one day.
The smoke of war and the flames of war spread to this small green hill.
Down the mountain, drums were beating, shouts of killing were deafening, swords were flashing, blood was flowing like a river. The men returned home wrapped in their horsehide.
However, there were more bodies of the men left on that land, all with broken limbs and separated bodies.
Too much blood and unfulfilled ambitions finally gave rise to the monster, and the small green hill was filled with gloomy winds all day long.
At that time he was still a confused little snake.
monsters are everywhere , saints and immortals will come to the world .
One day, two Taoists came to the foot of the mountain. One of them was a Taoist boy who came with his master.
At that time, during the Waking of Insects, the little snake Yimo poked its head out of its hole and roamed among the grasses and trees in search of food. However, as it had just woken up from hibernation, its body was stiff and heavy, and it bumped into the Taoist’s shoes.
The Taoist boy screamed and was about to kick, but his master stopped him.
Seeing that the two people were not going to embarrass him, the little snake Yi Mo was too lazy to embarrass them. Even though he was hungry, he knew that he could not eat the two people. He turned around and wanted to leave.
But he was stopped by an older Taoist priest.
The Taoist said, “That snake."
Knowing that he was a snake, Yi Mo stopped, turned around, and looked at him coldly with his black bean-like eyes, as if waiting for him to continue speaking.
“You are an interesting snake, quite spiritual."
Yi Mo was not called Yi Mo at that time. He was a nameless, footless worm who had only lived in this world for a few years. There were many birds and beasts in the mountains, and some of them were spirits that loved to make noises . Even though Yi Mo was not interested, he knew a thing or two about these immortals, demons, monsters, and spirits. He had never thought about cultivating to become a spirit or a demon, and just felt that the current situation was good enough.
The snake’s peaceful status quo was disrupted by this Taoist.
The Taoist took out a pot of wine from his waist and said with a smile: “I see you just woke up, and you must be hungry and cold. How about I treat you to a drink?" Then he opened the pot of wine.
No one knew what the wine was made of, but it had a refreshing aroma. Although Yi Mo knew that he had bad intentions, he was really hungry. After hesitating for a moment, he drank the wine in the gourd.
When he finished his drink and looked up again, he found that the world in front of him was different.
I saw that in the originally lush forest, there was a thick black air lingering around. There were also some red and green smells mixed in. For a moment, the world I was used to had changed.
The Taoist still had a smiling expression on his face. He squatted down and explained to him which were the devil spirits, which were the demon spirits, and which were the resentful spirits. He also explained to him the differences between demons and monsters. Finally, he happily put away the empty wine gourd and said, “After drinking my wine, you have become a demon. You are no longer the long worm that people catch, skin, debone, and stew into soup."
Yi Mo stood there in a daze for a long time.
The Taoist gave him a name, then stood up contentedly, without even doing his business, and left briskly, not caring about how much impact he had made on the life of a snake.
Later, the snake demon Yi Mo, who had never practiced for a single day, had to absorb the essence of the sun and the moon and began to learn how to practice.
It was not difficult to accept the fact that he had become a demon. Apart from the addition of a training course, he spent his days like any other. However, he had become a demon after all, no longer an ordinary little snake, and he was enlightened by the immortals. When he was an ordinary little snake, those demons disdained to pay attention to him. Now he was extraordinary in the eyes of the demons , and they often pestered him.
Yi Mo likes quietness by nature and feels bored.
In addition, those birds and beasts in the mountain that Yi Mo was familiar with and who were practicing hard to cultivate gradually fell into the path of evil, being contaminated by love, hate, greed, anger, and ignorance, and losing their normal nature, which made him even more unhappy.
the oriole that often perched on his back and chirped suddenly disappeared after one night .
Yi Mo finally took action and destroyed the demon formed by the resentment of the dead soldiers at the foot of the mountain. He cleaned out the little demons that were noisy in his ears day and night , and left his homeland ever since.
As he experienced more and more things, Yi Mo realized that the Taoist who enlightened him knew that the evil spirit in the mountain was too strong and difficult to subdue, so he enlightened this pure and simple little snake and gave him powerful skills for nothing, so he could use it to kill the evil leader.
The demons and monsters are fighting against each other, and they are evenly matched.
If it were a human being, with mortal flesh and blood, even if the skills were equal, they would still suffer some losses .
Yi Mo knew that he had been tricked, but he showed no emotion. He just calmly found another sacred mountain and cultivated for another hundred years. He cultivated into a human form and went down the mountain. After much searching, he found the reincarnation of the Taoist priest. He teased the Taoist priest who had done evil in his previous life until he almost hanged himself. Then he returned to the mountain to continue cultivating.
Later, the Taoist lived through three more lives and was ranked among the immortals. All this is in the past like smoke.
Shen Qingxuan listened attentively to his story of the past. At the end, he couldn’t help but laugh with his head down, thinking that this story of the Dao and the Snake had a beginning and an end.
With this in mind, he picked up his pen and asked:
When will you come back after you leave?
Yi Mo replied:
The fastest time is two months, the slowest is half a year.
Shen Qingxuan saw that it would take half a year , and he no longer hid his reluctance. However, he would not get close to others. Although he was not unfamiliar with them, he only asked:
It takes so long.
The snake said:
There are many monsters in this mountain. If you feel lonely, you can burn incense to invite them to come.
What he said was very polite and courteous. In his eyes, the ways of the world were easy to handle.
Shen Qingxuan was extremely displeased when he heard this. He thought, “It is enough for me to know you, the snake demon . Why do I need to invite some ghosts and monsters to accompany me?"
Do you think any demon or monster can accompany me? He felt that Yi Mo looked down on him, but he couldn’t speak up, so he turned his face away sullenly, and his long hair also helped to cover up the expression on his face.
Yi Mo, who was sitting opposite him, was silent for a while. After a while, he picked up the paper and ink again and wrote:
Goodbye.
Although Shen Qingxuan did not move, he was scanning that direction with the corner of his eyes. When he saw the words written on the white paper, his heart skipped a beat. At this moment, the bedside lamp happened to light up with a bang, and his hands on the silk quilt suddenly clenched, and his fingertips turned white.
The bed curtain was finally lifted again. Although his figure could not be seen, Shen Qingxuan knew that he was going to leave through it and suddenly felt uncomfortable.
Dependence is a common human nature, and Shen Qingxuan is no exception. Although he hated his dependence on this monster, he had no time to think about it at this moment. The days of loneliness for nearly twenty years had a gratifying change in the past few months. Black and white’s life had a different brilliance because of this unusual encounter. The trust in this alien seemed to be formed involuntarily, along with respect.
But she asked him to let go of her hand at this moment, after a separation of half a year.
The friendship between gentlemen that was originally envisioned seems to be unable to continue.
Shen Qingxuan turned his head suddenly, picked up the pen and wrote on the white paper that had been waiting for a long time:
You have been kind to me and you have been good to me. I miss you after not seeing you for several months. Since you came to say goodbye to me, why don’t you let me see you? Even if I dream at midnight and think of the quiet conversation under the candlelight, I am not the only one.
Putting down his pen, Shen Qingxuan stared at the place opposite and was silent for a long while.
He knew in his heart that their gentlemanly relationship, which was as pure as water, might undergo a drastic change because of this request.
Yi Mo never showed up, obviously not to show off, but probably it has been a habit for hundreds of years. Changing his habit, when did their friendship become so close?
If Yimo refuses——
Shen Qingxuan suddenly broke out in cold sweat, and the hair from his tailbone to his scalp stood up – if Yi Mo refused!
He didn’t dare to think about it anymore.
Even if their relationship was as dull as water, it was better than splitting up. He was no longer a reckless young man, so why did he make mistakes every time he met him?
Shen Qingxuan was just getting angry , suspicious , and flustered , thinking about how to make up for it , when the bed curtain that was lifted up at one corner began to sway slightly, apparently being picked up and put down again.
Then, a black corner of clothing appeared on the brocade quilt that was originally empty. Shen Qingxuan held his breath, his mind went blank.
What he was thinking about seemed to appear before him suddenly. He didn’t know whether it was because of excitement or something else, but he didn’t dare to breathe. His pale cheeks turned red and he even felt dizzy.
Yi Mo lifted the invisibility spell very quickly, but it seemed very slow in Shen Qingxuan’s eyes. Finally, when that face, as straight and cold as his handwriting, appeared in his field of vision, Shen Qingxuan blinked and his whole body stiffened.
Seeing a small cluster of green flames appear at Yi Mo’s fingertips and bounce towards his chest, Shen Qingxuan took a breath suddenly as if he was hit by gravel.
Shen Qingxuan blushed when he realized that he had forgotten to breathe and almost suffocated to death.
Blushing, Shen Qingxuan looked at the cold face for a while, then picked up the pen and wrote:
He is elegant and reserved , unparalleled in the world.
But Yi Mo raised his eyebrows slightly, used his hand as a pen, and added a line next to the eight words:
Clear, ancient, charming and beautiful, naturally graceful and elegant.
When Shen Qingxuan saw the words, he subconsciously touched his cheek with suspicion. When he looked up, he saw a flash of light in the other person’s dark eyes. He immediately realized that he was being teased. He was sincerely praising him, but the other person was just teasing him. But he fell for it.
Shen Qingxuan’s face turned red as if blood was about to drip out, and he cursed: You bad snake.
Although there is no sound, the lip movements are clear.
Yi Mo was neither happy nor angry, he just left two words on the paper: each other.
Then the bed curtains were lifted and disappeared.
