Snake Encounter 2·22

————————————————

Shen Jue pushed open the gate and saw his father sitting under the window, and Ji Jiu sitting across the window.

The two of them were separated by a window, basking in the sun and handling their affairs. Shen Jue raised his eyes and looked at the sky. The sky was blue. April had already brought spring back to the earth. The afternoon sun was quiet and gentle. The wind blowing through the courtyard caressed his face without the harshness of winter. Everything looked good.

Shen Jue didn’t want to disturb them, so he quietly closed the gate and walked towards his own room. But he was stopped by Yi Mo, who had his eyes closed.

Yi Mo said, “Come here."

the aloofness that he had shown more than a hundred years ago when he threw the wolf cub onto a chair out of disgust at its coquettishness. The demon who disliked the ways of the world had also been polished by time into a qualified father.

Ji Jiu tilted his head and looked at the father and son under the window, but did not interfere. He just didn’t know what Yi Mo asked him to do. If he was asking about what happened last night, Ji Jiu felt that it was a bit inappropriate. After all, this was Shen Jue’s private matter, no matter whether that person was the emperor or not.

Shen Jue stood in front of Yi Mo, very respectfully, and called out, “Father." Then he looked at Ji Jiu and said, “Dad."

When Ji Jiu was called twice like this , he felt as if he was a couple scolding their child. He was immediately embarrassed and had no choice but to respond . He lowered his head and held the pen to continue writing the unfinished letter, pretending to be busy.

Yi Mo opened his eyes, looked at Shen Jue, and after staring at him for a moment, asked, “Okay?" He was so lazy that he only uttered one word when asking the question.

Shen Jue knew what he was asking, and his face became hot. He lowered his head and replied with two words: “Very good."

This question and answer contained too many things that could not be told to outsiders, and the implications were so profound that even Ji Jiu’s ears blushed. Romantic affairs have always been secrets. The secrets in the small world of bed curtains should be kept to oneself. How could they be discussed in broad daylight? Although they spoke in a subtle way, it was still a little explicit. On the contrary, because of the deliberate subtlety, the explicitness became more obvious.

But Yi Mo had no sense at all and was still asking, asking Xiao Bao: “Is he willing?"

Xiao Bao’s face turned redder, and after a while he said, “He wanted one time per person, but I didn’t agree."

Yi Mo chuckled , as if he had expected it. Shen Jue’s face turned completely red after hearing his chuckle . He no longer had the calmness and composure he had last night. He was just a child standing in front of his parents and being questioned.

Just like the Lantern Festival that year, Shen Qingxuan pointed at the chubby clay puppy and teased him, and Yi Mo said at the side: You are like this in front of your elders.

What he said came true .

Ji Jiu suddenly interrupted and saved him, saying, “That’s enough."

Yi Mo looked into the window and met Ji Jiu’s gaze. He could clearly see four words in his eyes: disrespect for the elderly. Is this something you should ask about?

The old snake had no choice but to put away his teasing thoughts, waved his hand dignifiedly, and said to Shen Jue: “Go and have a rest."

This sentence made Shen Jue embarrassed again. Why are you taking a break ? You are the one taking a break.

After all these things, Shen Jue finally understood that it was pure delusion to ask his father to change his bad intentions. The closer the person was, the more evil the old monster’s evil intentions became. Fortunately, his father rarely went along with him.

Just as I was feeling thankful, I heard Ji Jiu say, “Go and have a rest. You don’t have to do housework today."

“Very rarely" does not mean “never". Shen Jue went back to his room with a red face.

Ji Jiu was genuinely concerned, but after he finished speaking, he realized that he also had mischievous intentions. Just as he was feeling annoyed , he received a glance from Yi Mo with a hidden smile. Ji Jiu quickly coughed, turned around and continued writing the letter.

In the evening, no one knew what Yi Mo was doing, but the air was filled with fragrance. Ji Jiu put down his pen and followed the smell to the stove in the kitchen. Yi Mo was sitting on a small stool, tinkering with the flames in the stove, with one hand supporting his forehead.

Ji Jiu asked, “What is this?" As he asked, he simply lifted the lid of the pot.

Ji Jiu was a little surprised when he thought the demon was going to cook dinner. Could demons also cook? But when he opened the lid, Ji Jiu’s face turned black.

Although he was not at home when his wife gave birth, Ji Jiu knew what kind of porridge it was just by taking a look.

This old snake! He deliberately wanted to make Shen Jue suffer.

Ji Jiu said, “Just calm down."

Yi Mo raised his eyes and said, “It’s not for him."

“Huh?" Ji Jiu was stunned. He thought for a moment before reacting. His mind was suddenly in a mess. “You want to give…" the Emperor?

Yi Mo raised his eyebrows, smiled and said, “Can’t I?"

Ji Jiu never thought that this “confinement porridge" was prepared for the emperor. This snake – Ji Jiu was speechless.

After standing for a while, Ji Jiu took the spoon and stirred the porridge in the pot while saying calmly: “Even if Shen Jue has someone he likes, he won’t give up his father for him. He does such a childish thing for no reason. Aren’t you afraid of being laughed at?" After a pause, he added: “What are you angry about?"

His thoughts were exposed, but the old snake did not show any shame on his face. Instead, he said frankly, “I’m happy." He was happy to do such a childish thing, so what?

Ji Jiu could actually imagine that as a father, he must have some emotions in his heart when his child, whom he had raised for so many years, got along with someone else. But he didn’t know before that this non-blood relationship could bind this old monster so deeply, so deeply that he could do such a childish and ridiculous thing.

After thinking for a while, Ji Jiu squatted down and faced him, narrowed his eyes and said: “You want to embarrass the emperor? I know him, this bowl of porridge can’t do it."

Yi Mo became interested and asked, “What else do you want?"

“Let me personally send him there and ask him to call me dad." Ji Jiu’s eyes narrowed completely and he asked, “How?"

depression in his heart dissipated a lot. Hearing this, he shook his head and said, “Why don’t you and I go together?"

Ji Jiu hit him on the head with an iron spoon, “You are getting on my nerves!" I was trying to make him happy, but he was still pushing his luck.

In the end, they poured out the porridge. When they were pouring out the porridge , Shen Jue came out and stood beside the two of them. He looked at the red porridge that nourished the body and said with a hot face in the night: “If you want to throw it away, you should throw me away."

What he said was very sincere and aggrieved.

Ji Jiu thought of the short-lived Shen Qingxuan, looked at him, and stopped talking. The longer they spent together, the harder it was for him to say those harsh words. The two people in front of him were both demons, but they were much more affectionate than the people he had seen.

Whenever he thought of this, Ji Jiu couldn’t help but feel that Shen Qingxuan had done something wrong. He also felt that even though that person had been bedridden for half his life, he was very lucky.

Yi Mo poured the porridge, picked up the pot and said, “You will be left behind sooner or later."

Xiaobao was easily hurt by his words and lowered his head without saying a word.

Ji Jiu couldn’t bear to see this, and said quickly: “You are only being nice now. I don’t know who was the one who made the porridge angrily to offend the emperor. You are like this even before your son is taken away. If he is really taken away, wouldn’t you go to Shen Qingxuan’s tomb and cry while hugging his bones?"

After these words, the father and son had different expressions on their faces, each of which was wonderful in its own way.

Ji Jiu turned around and went back to his room as if nothing had happened.

Yi Mo was left staring at his back, and asked Shen Jue, “Why is he so unforgiving?"

Xiaobao remembered that his father had just hurt him, and said, “I spoiled you in my previous life, but I won’t do it in this life anymore." After saying that, he walked away, as if he was going to abandon his father.

After walking less than ten steps, he turned back, grabbed Yi Mo’s long sleeve and dragged him back.

After being humiliated in front of Ji Jiu once again, Yi Mo began to seriously consider whether he was really spoiled by Shen Qingxuan in the previous life. He always did whatever he wanted, but Shen Qingxuan never said anything to him, not even a complaint. He only showed tolerance and patience to him.

Unfortunately, this kind of reflection did not last long. After Ji Jiu got on the bed , he lay over again regardless of other people’s wishes, pinned the person down and held him in his arms.

The days passed slowly , Ji Jiu kept all his promises, and as long as Yi Mo didn’t go too far, he would let him do what he wanted. He treated Shen Jue like his own child, always protecting him.

Sometimes Shen Jue was bullied by Yi Mo so badly that he couldn’t bear it anymore and went up to help.

Life is peaceful and calm.

He calmly accepted that he was the reincarnation of Shen Qingxuan, and calmly accepted the two demons ‘ attachment to him, although this attachment was directed towards Shen Qingxuan rather than Ji Jiu.

Knowing this, he calmly gave his treasure and was even willing to give up his past hatred.

It is not only to repay Shen Qingxuan, but also the bottom line of one’s life.

Although he is a heartless person, he is not ungrateful.

The season for locust flowers to bloom soon arrived. In the mountains, forests and fields, dozens or even hundreds of locust trees were covered with clusters of white locust flowers, hanging from the branches. The locust trees beside the Ji family’s ancestral tomb grew particularly strong and tall, reaching straight into the sky. The white jade on the trees could be seen from afar.

Ji Jiu took Shen Jue out early that morning and asked him to take a piece of cloth and spread it under the tree. He tucked his robe into his waist, rolled up his sleeves, and hugged the tree trunk. In a few seconds, he disappeared into the flower canopy.

Shen Jue stretched his neck to watch from below, and after watching for a while he shouted, “Dad, what are you doing?"

What answered him were handfuls of plucked locust flowers.

danced all over the sky and fell, carrying with it a faint and quiet fragrance, slowly drifting down and landing on his shoulders and hair.

Shen Jue understood and immediately became happy. He tucked up his robe , hugged the tree trunk and jumped up in two moves.

Ji Jiu was busy when he felt the branch sink again. He turned around and saw Shen Jue’s big smile. He was stunned and said, “The locust branches are very fragile. They will fall down."

Before he could finish his words, the branch that was carrying the weight of both of them snapped. Ji Jiu knew something was wrong, but it was too late. He subconsciously pushed Shen Jue away and fell down himself.

“father!"

Shen Jue had never expected this to happen. After all, the locust tree was thick and the branches didn’t look thin, but they broke easily. Ji Jiu suddenly pushed him with great force, pushing him to another branch. He had no room to react. He just watched Ji Jiu fall at a high speed and was about to hit the ground.

Ji Jiu thought that he would be either killed or half crippled this time, but Yi Mo, who was reading in the room, appeared out of nowhere and caught him.

Ji Jiu opened his eyes and was greeted by a face that still showed lingering fear. Because of this face, Ji Jiu was not frightened, but the first thing he thought of was that he had frightened this person.

I instinctively said, “I’m fine."

Yi Mo said: “Yeah."

Ji Jiu looked around and saw that he was still being held, so he hurriedly said, “Put me down."

Yi Mo ignored him and held him in his arms, locking him tightly , as if he wanted to lock him into his body. This way you are safe, with me here, you will not be in danger anymore.

Ji Jiu came back to his senses, not caring about the pain in his bones from being hugged, and reached out to pat his back, coaxing him like a child: “It’s okay, it’s okay."

At this time, Shen Jue came down from the tree, and Yi Mo shouted at him, “Who told you to come down? Go up and pick all the flowers!"

Shen Jue didn’t say anything, climbed up the tree again and picked flowers obediently.

Only then did Yi Mo let him go.

Two hours later, the sun was at its highest point in the sky, and Shen Jue walked home carrying the huge package.

The parcel was filled with locust flowers, spread out in the yard, as if covered with a layer of jade.

Ji Jiu originally just wanted to make locust flower rice to satisfy his craving, but now looking at so many flowers, he began to worry about whether he should brew locust flower wine.

It took three days to process a field of locust flowers. At noon that day, the three of them ate the delicious locust flower rice after all the twists and turns.

It was the first time for Shen Jue to eat this kind of delicious local food. He ate three bowls in one go and still felt it was not enough.

While eating, he asked Ji Jiu: “Dad, how can you make these? I remember you can’t cook."

In fact, whether it was Shen Qingxuan in the previous life or Ji Jiu in this life, they were not good at this kind of thing. In the first generation of aristocratic families, or in the second generation of officials, there were people to serve them in their daily life and food , so there was no need for him to do it himself.

They are all masters to be served.

While eating, Ji Jiu replied, “My mother taught me." Similarly, this is the only dish his mother can cook.

When she was still alive, she would order her servants to climb the trees and pick a lot of locust flowers at a certain time every year, pick them clean, soak them, and then make them into rice or snacks. The family would gather together on rare occasions to enjoy the sweet delicacies.

Putting down the bowl, Ji Jiu smiled. “Mother said that I have been a heartless person since I was young. I argued with her, but she didn’t say anything, but she insisted that no matter what I said, she would not change. So every year at this time of year, I would climb the tree to pick locust flowers and learn how to cook them for me and her. But she only ate them for two years before she passed away."

Shen Jue felt that his question was not asked well, so he kept silent. He soon finished his meal and left.

Only Yi Mo and Ji Jiu were left, eating quietly.

Seeing that Ji Jiu stopped eating, Yi Mo put down the bowl and asked him, “Why do you say that?"

Ji Jiu paused and said, “Look at other babies. They stick to their mothers even when they are full. But with me, after I am full, I turn over and go to sleep, leaving her behind my mind." So, I am heartless, heartless to the core.

After listening to it, Yi Mo agreed after thinking about it and said, “It is indeed heartless."

Ji Jiu had already agreed with this result, so he didn’t care about Yi Mo’s words. He stood up, cleaned up the dishes and took them to the kitchen .

Yi Mo watched his disappearing back, thinking that a person’s temperament can be seen at birth. Ji Jiu’s mother was also a wise person, and she hit the nail on the head.

But I don’t know that everything has a cause. If Shen’s mother didn’t have that kind of character in her previous life, how could there be Ji Jiu who is so unkind to her mother?
