————————————————
It took Ji Jiu three days to restore the yard to its former neatness. The rotten doors and windows, the broken water tank, the overturned stone table, the bumpy earthen wall… After quietly restoring everything to its original state, Ji Jiu sat in the sun to bask in the sun. The sun was warm, the breeze carried the fragrance of flowers, and he drank tea with a peaceful look. It seemed as if the world was quiet and beautiful, impeccable.
All the despair and sorrow, sadness and joy, are all an illusion.
Last year, there was a severe drought in the south of the Yangtze River. The year before last, there was a locust plague in the northwest. The year before last, there were heavy rains, which flooded countless grain fields. In such a year, the local gentry and the government opened their warehouses to provide disaster relief, and they barely survived. It was not until this year that the weather was good. In such a year, the army would inevitably waste people’s money and money. And the army must go first before it can move without food. Therefore, the emperor and Ji Jiu were waiting, waiting for a good year, waiting for more money and food to deal with an unprecedented war.
Ji Jiu yawned, rubbed his eyes, got up and went back to his room, sat at the desk, opened the letters piled beside him and read them.
There were several letters that had already been opened. Ji Jiu took out the papers inside again. Most of them were just military information. There were only a few lines in the letters, all about ordinary trivial matters. Only one of the letters took Ji Jiu a long time to read. There were only two lines in it, but what was described was extraordinary. The letter said that the Hun army had made unusual movements in recent days.
Ji Jiu thought for a long time. First of all, he was sure that the enemy had come before he went to look for them. Then, he was sure that since even he could receive this message, the emperor must have received it as well. Finally, Ji Jiu was not sure about the emperor’s intentions – did he want him to hide here and wait for the final battle to come before letting him come back, or… did he not want him to fight this battle at all?
If it is the former, if the Huns invade, Ji Jiu is sure that he can lead the troops to fight this time. If it is the latter… Ji Jiu thought about it and didn’t quite understand why this would be the case?
Isn’t it agreed that he will be the emperor and he will be his general?
Isn’t it agreed that he will rule the world and he will protect the country for him?
Didn’t we agree on this?
Ji Jiu threw the letter away, not knowing what else he could believe in this world.
He could only wait for the imperial edict to come. In fact, he was not impatient. Ji Jiu always felt that if the Huns attacked, he would have to go to meet them in person. Looking at the court and the public with a cold eye, no one knew the Huns better than him.
The two years in the yellow sand were not in vain.
It was getting dark and there was a knock on the door. Ji Jiu got up to open it. An old man with a wrinkled face handed him a greasy package and a jar of freshly brewed wine.
Ji Jiu smiled and said, “Thank you, Uncle Ya. I’ve been bothering you recently."
was called “Mute Uncle" quickly waved his hands and opened his mouth to scream “ah ah" but could not utter a complete sentence.
Ji Jiu put the food on the table. Uncle Ya gestured to go to work, closed the door, and returned to the yard.
Turning the oil lamp brighter, Ji Jiu sat at the table and ate his dinner in silence. The farmer made the pancakes himself. Because it was made for him, he put more oil in it and put a lot of diced meat in it. He spread it on the table, and the oil flowed along the veins of the lotus leaves. Ji Jiu had no appetite, but he didn’t want to disappoint the kindness of Uncle Ya’s family , so he ate it with big mouthfuls , swallowing it with water and wine, and swallowed most of it.
He couldn’t eat the remaining half, so he put it aside, filled his teacup with wine, and drank it.
The wine is cold, but it warms the stomach and then the whole body. He has always been a good drinker and doesn’t get drunk easily.
He drank alone until late at night. There was a sound of wind in the house with the doors and windows closed. Ji Jiu’s hand holding the wine bowl paused for a moment, and a few drops of wine spilled and landed on his green robe.
Yi Mo also held a jar of wine and placed it next to his jar of wine, one jar next to the other , as if shoulder to shoulder .
Ji Jiu slowly put down the teacup, looked at the two jars of wine standing side by side on the table, and waited for a while before saying, “There is no snack."
Yi Mo sat opposite him, took an upside-down tea bowl, put it down, poured himself some wine, and said, “No need."
Ji Jiu smiled, nodded and said yes, then asked, “What’s the matter?"
“I’m here to say goodbye." Yi Mo said.
Something seemed to flash across Ji Jiu’s eyes, but it was so fast that even Yi Mo couldn’t catch it. Perhaps only Ji Jiu himself knew what he was thinking at that moment.
But Ji Jiu would not say anything, he just raised the wine cup and said lightly: “In this case, this cup of wine will serve as your practice ."
Yi Mo drank it.
They didn’t talk for a long time, each drinking by themselves, occasionally their eyes met, but soon separated. Ji Jiu’s eyes always looked away first, looking to one side or the other, always unwilling to look him in the eye, perhaps because he didn’t want to, or perhaps because he didn’t dare.
Ji Jiu had drunk a lot before, so his wine jar was empty first.
Shaking the empty wine jar, Ji Jiu said, “It’s gone."
Yi Mo filled his glass with wine, then filled his own, put down the jar which was also low on wine, and said, “Let’s divide it."
Ji Jiu thought he could drink a lot, so he didn’t care what kind of wine he poured for him. But after drinking three glasses in a row, Ji Jiu felt a little dazed, and his heart beat very fast. He could even hear the noise of blood flowing rapidly in his veins. Ji Jiu rubbed his forehead and asked, “What kind of wine is this? It’s so strong."
“Spring wine." Yi Mo said, and then added: “It’s also called daughter’s wine. I stole it. The woman was ugly and crippled, so no one wanted her. The spring wine her father brewed for her has been buried for more than 40 years. Anyway, no one would drink it, so I took it."
Ji Jiu held his forehead and glared at him at first, but after listening, he couldn’t help but burst out laughing.
This smile made his blood surge and his head feel dizzy.
Ji Jiu said: “Anything else?"
Yi Mo picked up the jar of wine and shook it again, “There’s still a little left."
“Give them all to me." Ji Jiu rushed to say, and hugged the jar of wine in his arms.
Yi Mo looked at his empty hands and sighed, “Do you want me to go dig another jar?"
In the past, Ji Jiu would have rejected this question immediately without any consideration. But tonight, it seemed to have become complicated. Ji Jiu thought about it for a long time and finally asked, “Did her father brew a lot?"
Yi Mo said: “Three altars."
Ji Jiu said “Oh", and then said: “Then I’ll have another jar." After a pause, as if she had a guilty conscience, she asked him: “Anyway, she won’t marry again, right?"
Yi Mo thought about it for a while, and finally said firmly: “Given her situation, it will be difficult for her to get married."
Ji Jiu felt settled.
After finishing the last bit of wine, Ji Jiu leaned over the table, his face flushed, his breathing a little rapid, the behavior of a drunk person. His eyes were also blank, and at the same time there was a wet color.
After lying down for a while, Ji Jiu muttered, “What kind of person is Shen Qingxuan?" He was very drunk and his speech was a little unclear. It took Yi Mo a while to understand what he was asking.
After thinking for a while, Yi Mo said, “Bad guy."
Ji Jiu lay on the table and started laughing . I don’t know what he was thinking about, but he kept laughing until tears came out, but he could n’t hold it back.
Yi Mo leaned over and looked at him for a while, “Drunk?"
“No." Ji Jiu said immediately.
People who usually drink too much say they didn’t drink too much.
Talking to such people is usually the most difficult, because their thoughts are wandering, sometimes east, sometimes west, sometimes south, sometimes north, and you never know what they will say next.
Yi Mo encountered this problem.
Ji Jiu was still claiming that he was not drunk the moment before, and the next moment, Ji Jiu asked: “What did you do to me like that?"
Yi Mo sorted out his thoughts and was about to answer, but Ji Jiu jumped into another question and asked, “Who do you want me to be?"
Because he was drunk, Yi Mo was also frank. This time he didn’t think and said directly: “Of course it’s Shen Qingxuan."
Ji Jiu raised his eyes, stared at him blankly for a while, and then asked him in a particularly innocent tone: “What about Ji Jiu?"
Yi Mo was embarrassed for a while, and said honestly: “I don’t know."
Upon hearing this, Ji Jiu suddenly stretched out his hand and pointed at his nose, as if he was about to curse. Yi Mo leaned back and instinctively tried to hide, but Ji Jiu pointed at him for a moment, then withdrew his hand and mercilessly ridiculed him, “Idiot."
“…" Yi Mo didn’t know where his thoughts were going.
Ji Jiu propped up his head with the hand that had just pointed at him, and asked drunkenly with his eyes closed: “Before you looked for Shen Qingxuan, did you ever think that you would meet someone like Ji Jiu?"
Yi Mo said: “I have thought about it."
“Have you thought about how to solve it?"
Yi Mo said: “I thought about it, but there is no way."
Ji Jiu laughed “hehe", as if it was very funny, and he laughed non-stop. When he had laughed enough , he said again: “Idiot." Yi Mo blinked, and heard Ji Jiu muttering: “You can’t think clearly, but you just look for it blindly. What’s the use of finding it? You have no strategy in doing things, idiot, stupid!"
“……”Yi Mo was magnanimous and didn’t argue with him.
“What should Ji Jiu do if he becomes Shen Qingxuan?" Without looking at him again, Ji Jiu propped up his head and pondered over this question with his already knotted brain, muttering, “Ji Jiu entered the palace at the age of nine, and at the age of sixteen, he and Chen Ming forced the old emperor to step down. He shouldered the lives of hundreds of people in his family, and later became a general in the military camp, married and had children, and… he also promised Chen Ming that he would be his general to fight the Huns." After a pause, Ji Jiu slammed the table and cursed, “The emperor is a liar!"
Yi Mo was stunned for a moment, “How did I lie to you?" The topic drifted away again.
“He told me to go fight the Huns." Ji Jiu stood up, stumbled to the table, took out a stack of letters and threw them to him, saying harshly: “Look, the Huns are almost at my doorstep, and he still wants me to stay here!"
Yi Mo unfolded the letter and was about to read it, but Ji Jiu snatched it away again . He said to him sternly, “You are spying on military intelligence!" He then shouted, “Come here, tie him up for me, he is a spy!"
Yi Mo sighed and felt a little headache.
Standing up and grabbing Ji Jiu’s shoulders, Yi Mo shook him and raised his voice, “Look clearly at who I am."
Ji Jiu stopped shouting, looked at him for a while, and suddenly blurted out three words: “Old demon snake!"
Yi Mo: “…” Fortunately, I still recognize him.
Ji Jiu pushed him away. Because it was a sudden force, Yi Mo was not on guard and was pushed away. Ji Jiu stood there, slightly swaying . He looked at him for a while and said, “What did you do in your early years? Why didn’t you come to me when I first entered the palace? When those princes were trying to make trouble for us, you didn’t come either. What’s the point of coming now?"
Yi Mo said: “Would it be useful if I had found you earlier?"
Ji Jiu laughed: “It’s better than you coming here now. I still have time to be a playboy by then."
“Yi Mo." Ji Jiu suddenly raised his voice and shouted, “Ji Jiu, it’s too late to turn back and be a playboy. You’re too late!"
The quiet courtyard was no longer peaceful because of his sudden loud shout, which even alarmed the dog of a farmer not far away, and a burst of barking was heard.
Yi Mo stood for a moment and said, “You can’t be a playboy." He added, “Because you are the only son of the Ji family."
Ji Jiu was stunned for a moment, and asked back: “Really?" Seeing Yi Mo nod, he was stunned again, and then said: “That’s right."
Yi Mo said: “Yeah."
Ji Jiu waited for a while and said, “Anyway, you are looking for Shen Qingxuan. What does it have to do with you whether Ji Jiu is a playboy or not?" The topic suddenly came to this point. Ji Jiu suddenly felt that what he said made sense, and quickly added, “That’s right, what does it have to do with you?"
Yi Mo paused and said, “For me, there is no difference."
“Nonsense." Ji Jiu immediately refuted, saying confidently: “Then I asked you to become an immortal, why don’t you go?"
“But…" Shen Qingxuan asked me to go, but I didn’t go. Before I could say this, Ji Jiu waved his sleeves and said, “You want to treat me as Shen Qingxuan, but you never listen to me. I said no, and you said yes. You treat Shen Qingxuan like this? In the end, you just treat me as a tool for your thoughts."
This time, even though his thoughts were moving very fast, Yi Mo knew what he was talking about and immediately said, “Shen Qingxuan never said ‘no’."
Ji Jiu blinked and said, “But I’m not Shen Qingxuan." Another innocent look.
“You are." Yi Mo said.
“No." Ji Jiu said.
“yes."
“no."
“yes."
“But I didn’t even know you ten years ago! My memory only goes back thirty years!"
“But… I have two hundred years of memories, and you from my previous life."
Ji Jiu suddenly lost his temper, squatted down dejectedly, and then covered his face and sat on the ground.
After a long while, he finally said, “What about Ji Jiu? What about Wang Jiu, Chen Jiu, and Li Jiu in the future? What will you do if they are not as good to you as Ji Jiu? Will you keep looking for them?"
Yi Mo was silent for a moment, walked over and sat on the ground with him, and replied: “I don’t know."
“You have to think it over." Ji Jiu lowered his head and murmured , “Shen Qingxuan is dead, gone, only his bones are left. If you want to die with him, then go. If you don’t want to, then become an immortal. There are only these two ways to go. You can’t keep looking forever . Even if you find one, you will have to face a different Shen Qingxuan, who may hate you, fear you, or ignore you. You are not ready to face a Shen Qingxuan who will say ‘no’ to you."
Yi Mo lowered his eyes and said softly: “Is there no other possibility?"
“No." Ji Jiu also answered softly: “I thought about it for a long time, no. Even if you find him in a certain life, at the right time and the right place, you are together again. But it will only be a few decades, and you will lose him again. Then the cycle will continue."
“Yi Mo," Ji Jiu said, “I don’t have much time left. A dying man’s words are good. Just believe me. Go and become an immortal."
Yi Mo looked at him, first with a casual glance, then his eyes became serious, with a sense of scrutiny. After looking at him for a long time, Yi Mo said, “Do you really want me to leave?"
Ji Jiu said: “Is there any meaning in keeping it?"
Silence again.
Yi Mo said: “Stay with me one more night."
Ji Jiu said, “Go away."
Yi Mo said: “It’s Ji Jiu who is accompanying me."
Ji Jiu was silent.
